Designed for a devoted homeschooling mother of two

This project centered on designing two distinctly different spaces that together support the rhythm of everyday family life. For a devoted homeschooling mother of two, the primary bedroom became an opportunity to create a peaceful retreat—a place to slow down, recharge, and step away from the constant demands of caring for her family. At the opposite end of the home, the unfinished attic was transformed into a highly functional craft and storage room, giving years of homeschooling materials, seasonal décor, office equipment, and creative supplies an organized place to live.

While each space served a different purpose, both were approached with the same philosophy: thoughtful design should make daily life easier while creating environments that feel beautiful to be in. The result is a home that balances function with comfort, providing spaces that not only meet the family's practical needs but also enrich their everyday routines.

Design Direction

The primary bedroom embraces rich color and layered textures to create a space that feels calming, sophisticated, and deeply personal. By leaning into a moodier palette, the room became the peaceful escape the homeowner envisioned—one designed for rest after long days of homeschooling and caring for her family.

Every design decision began with how the homeowner actually lives. In the attic, cabinetry and storage were planned around the family's existing belongings, ensuring everything from lesson plans to wrapping paper had a dedicated place. The result is a workspace that feels intuitive, organized, and easy to maintain.

With a preference for clean, uncluttered spaces, every accessory was selected with intention. Rather than filling surfaces, we focused on pieces that introduced warmth, texture, and subtle color, allowing the rooms to feel collected and inviting without overwhelming the eye.

The attic's low ceiling heights required creative thinking to make every square inch functional. Through custom built-ins, tailored storage, and strategic cabinetry, we transformed a challenging space into a highly efficient craft and organization hub that works beautifully for the family's everyday needs.

Storage, Reimagined

With limited ceiling height presenting the primary challenge, every cabinet, shelf, and countertop was thoughtfully planned to make the most of the available space. Working closely with our custom cabinet maker—and guided by the homeowner's clear vision for how she uses the room—we designed the entire layout around the items she already owned. Built-in cabinetry, pull-out storage, generous basket storage, dedicated printer stations, and a central homework and craft table transformed the attic into an organized, highly functional extension of the home. The result is a hardworking creative space where everything has a place, making everyday projects and homeschooling significantly more efficient.

A Retreat to Recharge

The vision for the primary bedroom was simple: create a peaceful sanctuary that feels calm, cozy, and effortlessly collected. Because the homeowners were excited to embrace a moodier aesthetic, we layered rich textures throughout the room, beginning with a statement rug sourced during a buying trip to Texas. The existing armoire became the anchor of the design, with its dark wood finish beautifully contrasting the soft green walls. We selected complementary nightstands and a dresser to create a cohesive palette while keeping accessories intentionally minimal. Every decorative piece was chosen to add warmth, color, or texture without creating clutter, resulting in a serene retreat that offers a sense of rest and restoration at the end of each busy day.
